Most of the other reviews have already focused on the film, so this will mostly be details on the blu-ray release. Very good movie and a more than decent ‘catalog’ release on Blu-Ray.

VIDEO: I found the transfer to be a bit “mixed” – some scenes really popped with color while others seemed a bit dull, even changing from cut-to-cut. With lots of bright colors in the film, I might have just been asking for too much. Very good detail in scenes, especially over the DVD release. I never found the grain to be distracting (and it’s actually quite light on the grain). For a comedy, you can’t expect too much though.

AUDIO: I found the audio to be fine (no issues), but really very little use of surrounds (I only noticed it during scenes with music) – the majority of the track comes out the front/center speakers. But again, it’s a comedy and you can’t expect too much surround sound out of it.

EXTRAS: Carried over from the DVD release, unfortunately these are all standard-definition with the exception of the trailer. Nothing new as far as bonus features go.

Overall, it’s a very funny movie worth picking up if you can find it cheap (which isn’t much of a problem since it’s already a lower-priced catalog title). Even though it won’t amaze you with it’s quality (compared to other blu-rays), I found the improvement over the DVD to be enough to justify the upgrade. Overall 4/5 stars. Check Special Price!

A Star Vehicle for Lohan, but McAdams Steals Film… – Benjamin J Burgraff – Las Vegas
In many ways, “Mean Girls” retreads the familiar ‘New Kid in School’ genre, complete with class cliques, stereotypical characters, and stock situations, but with then-kid favorite Lindsay Lohan in the lead, and “Saturday Night Live’s” Lorne Michaels and Tina Fey involved, the one-liners were fast and funny, and plot elements achieved surreal levels of inspired silliness. The end result was never believable, yet great fun…but the film had a surprise no one expected; while Lohan got the bulk of screen time, the ‘Queen’ of the ‘Mean Girls’, Rachel McAdams, was so dazzling that she blew Lohan off the screen! You were supposed to hate her, but she was infinitely more fun than bland Lindsay, and I cared far more about her character, the entire film.

That McAdams went on to screen stardom, while Lohan is still struggling to achieve more than tabloid fame is not surprising; “Mean Girls” revealed a star in the making, and is at it’s best whenever she appears.

Buy it, and enjoy Rachel McAdams!
